If there’s one thing we cannot get enough of in SEO it is links. We need to have them, need to get them, need to keep them. It was link exchange first, directory building later on and right now the drum beats “social media”. Social media is it.

And that’s true, more or less. Social media is the equivalent of real-world store’s word of mouth. Thing is, you can’t have word of mouth without something to talk about. Word of mouth, social media, is the vehicle, the means; it’s not the ultimate end goal.

Yahoo! CEO Steps Down

by The Guy
June 18, 2007

In what should really come as a suprise to no one, Terry Semel resigned as CEO of Yahoo! to be replaced in the interim by Jerry Yang, one of the site co-founders.

Susan Decker will become company president and most have their eyes on her with, frankly, great expectations.

While I myself have never run a multi-billion dollar corporation, it strikes me that putting a new driver behind the wheel doesn’t automatically mean you have a new car, or a new race for that matter.

What can Yahoo do?

Eyeka: plateforme multimedia (mobile)

TheWis by TheWis
June 18, 2007

TheWis by TheWis
June 18, 2007

Wasn’t That A (Non)Party?

by The Guy
June 15, 2007

I’ve been watching with great curiousity the, ummm, tension between Google and ebay with great interest.

Who hasn’t?

To wit: Ebay holds annual ebay live convention, Google announces competing party with the unstated goal of having ebay/Paypal users force inclusion of Google Checkout.

Ebay gets, oh, what’s the word? PISSED Mildly annoyed. Ebay cancels all paid advertising on Google. How much? In excess of $100 Million annually or about 1% of Google income. Um, ouch.

But here’s where it gets interesting.

Week 3 Wrap-Up of the Search Lyrics Contest

Jeff Quipp by Jeff Quipp
June 14, 2007

Week 3 of the contest picked up a little, with 4 new entries. Voting has been very brisk. We’ve even seen forum postings talking about how to game our contest system … we are mostly SEO’s btw. Suffice to say … how could this be an SEO contest without our using an ‘algorithm’. Let me say this. The winner will not necessarily be the site with the ‘Highest Average Score’ as shown on the “Highest Rated” page, although this will be a factor. The number of votes will also be considered, as well, the voting patterns will be analyzed for inconsistencies. We also have opted not to show the real scoring since it makes the system easier to game (especially knowing who you all are) … oooooooh does that sound alot like Google. We don’t quite have 200 variables, but definitely more than 5. Matt … I can sympathize with you to some extent. We want the best lyrics possible to win.

Week 2 SEO Lyrics Contest Wrap-Up

Jeff Quipp by Jeff Quipp
June 14, 2007

Apologies for the long delay getting the week 2 wrap up out, and even week 3 for that matter. Between attending SMX in Seattle, sponsoring and attending SES in Toronto, and trying to operate a business, I got really busy somewhere along the line. Imagine that.

In any case, enough about me. Back to the contest. To be honest, week 2 was very slow. Lots of voting, but very few submissions. The 2 submissions received were:

1) ‘We Are the Champions’ - Parody of the Queen Song by Angele

2) ‘Hello I’ll Link You’ - A Doors ‘Hello I Love You’ Parody by Umb

Eyeka: (mobile) multimedia platform

by Sasha
June 12, 2007

eyeka-logo (version fran栩se) Eyeka is a young (April 2007) French startup by proven entrepreneur Gille Babinet. Gille created MusiWave, a mobile music delivery platform sold to OpenWave.

eyeka-site Mobility remains the future for Gille and he created Eyeka. Eyeka’s goal is to take photos and video’s and give the creator a platform and a chance to sell and distribute and deliver that content (also) to mobile phones.

The site you see when you visit Eyeka is but one part of Eyeka’s infrastructure. It’s the part where you create your user profile, upload your content, edit it if needed. The other parts consist of mobile access via WAP and a Java client.

Tontuyau.com: 100% Quebec Video

by Sasha
June 11, 2007

(version fran栩se) tontuyeau-logo Although “Ton Tuyau” is the literal translation of “You Tube”, TonToyau.com isn’t a one-on-one copy of YouTube.com.

An obvious difference is of course that TonTouyau is in french. And not french for the French: “If it isn’t Quebecer, we DON’T want it”, reads the site’s slogan.

But that aside, some other differences really stand out.

Videos are approved before going live.

approved

Uploading a video not appropriate to TonTuyau’s mission, sharing Quebec video, is useless.

Second, there is no video sharing as such… If you find Louis-Jose’s “yo man” sketch funny, forward the URL to your friends because there is no embedding provided.
