Blog Post Publishing Process – Best SEO Practices

The blog post publishing process can vary depending on the material you produce. But there are some basics that must be observed;, they never change.

Those basics are:

  • the need to post content that is of exceptional quality,
  • good SEO practices,
  • linking within the content, internal and external,
  • sharing

Exceptional quality is always important for any blog post to be meaningful to your audience. You have to take the subject matter that you cover and present it in a fascinating manner that will captivate your audience.

The ideal is to bring them back for more over and again. For this to happen you must also understand what makes your content exceptional.

Talk with your audience to find out how they feel about the posts you offer. Respond to comments and answer questions, this way your content will have more value for the readers and the search engines.

Also, focus on your title; create a compelling title that attracts attention -- but make sure you deliver on it in the post.

Standard SEO Practices

Start with the title tag, place your relevant keywords at the beginning, but make it readable; don't just stuff keywords -- that stopped working a long time ago.

Add alt tags to each image in the post as well as a good description. Consider the location of the image in the text:  search engines also value the words around the image to determine relevance, so position your image accordingly.

As for the keywords in the post, don't mind them. If you write about the topic mentioned in your title than you are bound to repeat those and other related keywords once or twice in the article, which is more than enough.

The way you link will make your blog and your posts perform differently.

Use proper linking within the content, internal and external. Use deep links to boost the relevance of your landing pages but only where appropriate; don't just link every keyword you place, have some moderation.

The same goes for external links; link where needed, link to prove a point, offer a resource, don't link for the sake of linking.

Social Media Sharing

Don't just tweet your post or share it as is: offer something more, some insights or calls to action to your tweets and your posts on social networks. Liven things up a bit and you will see the results; more tweets, more likes and more clicks.

Pay attention each time you publish your post; don't just slap content on your blog; never ignore your readers. Investing some extra time to add a few retouches to your posts and sparing a bit more time for social networks can end up bringing you a great deal of traffic and profits.

Your suggestion under Social Media Sharing really hits home. I know that I am all too guilty of not adding the extra tailored to the platform and the subtle changes in the audience and their expectations. Great point.

Good points about adding descriptions and alt tags to images and where you place the images in the content. I can't believe how many times I see people make a great post and add some nice images to it without providing a proper alt tag or description for the image. A lot of times people just leave it as the file name, which often isn't optimized at all and provides little value other than a number or id. I personally like to use captions when the design calls for it and I believe it helps to keep people on the page longer as they will tend to read the captions of images, as well as create more compelling content that people want to mention and link to.
