Building a small network of friends is a great idea. I also like to submit articles to Ezine Articles and link them to my blog. I have attracted a lot of readers this way.

In my opinion the "commenting on other blogs" should not be limited to your foundation-firends (or you friends at all).

Even by commenting on a blog run by someone you don't like you can show presence.

And there is a chance your (soon to be) foundation-friends read your comment at the third party's blog and think: "Wow, that guy is present everywhere. He must be really important."

Sounds a little bit like high school :) I'm sure Shana wrote a post about that once...

But sound advice Jeff, containing tactics that I'm most definitely trying to implement myself. If anyone is interested in joining my little newbie friendship group let me know... :)

Jeff this was such a great post. And I absolutely feel that you're on the money. 'a collective' I love that. It's so borgish. :-)

This post makes a few of the points that I attempted to make with my "Sphinn Underdog" post. (linked to my name)

A few supporters that stick together can build quite the collective over a period of time. We grow and learn together.

As long as we are providing quality content, authority grows and more will follow and so on. We have each other to call on in time of need and the list of friends continues to grow along with notoriety, readership and authority.

Win win.
