Apple Leads the Way in Google Searches for 2011

As we approach the end of the year, we look back at some of the top stories that made the headlines such as the Casey Anthony trial, the death of Osama Bin Laden and the earthquake in Japan. But in terms of the latest news released on Google searches for the year, 2011, Apple was clearly the leader.

Steve Jobs
One of the biggest stories involving the Cupertino based technology company was sadly the passing of its co-founder and CEO, Steve Jobs from pancreatic cancer. Jobs was one of the pioneers of the development of personal computing that occurred in the early 1980s, and after being unceremoniously booted out by Apple executives years later in the 1990s, he came back to lead the company back from its near collapse to the incredible soaring success it now enjoys. Today Apple Inc. controls the biggest share of MP3 players and tablet computers, as well as a dominant force in the smart phone arena.

iPad 2
The releases of both the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S as well as highly anticipated offerings of future Apple devices such as the iPad 3 and iPhone 5 all figured prominently in Google searches for 2011. In the iPhone 5 at #6, Steve Jobs at #9 and the iPad 2 at #10 all made the Top 10 Google Searches for 2011. Coupled with the incredible success of the iPhone 4S with its groundbreaking Siri capability makes Apple the unquestionable leader in searches on the leading Internet search engine.

The iPad 2 was released in March 2011 and just like any other major device released by Apple, it was an enormous success with huge lines of people waiting to get into Apple Stores around the country and the Internet being bogged down due to the huge influx of customers who wished to purchase the tablet online. As of result of the success of the iPad 2, other technology companies suffered knowing that they couldn't compete with Apple. For example, HP announced this year that they would cease production of its consumer PCs, smart phones and tablets and their tablets were made available in a veritable fire sale at more than 50% off the original retail price. HP later recanted and decided against ceasing production of PCs but all of their remaining tablets are mainly refurbished items on Ebay.

iPhone 5
The iPhone 4S has had similar success upon its arrival in Apple Stores although initially, there was some speculation it wouldn't do as well as its predecessor. But by including a more powerful camera, a better operating system and Siri, Apple once again had a winner and the media has widely acclaimed the latest smart phone as one of the best on the market.

While many Apple enthusiasts have not been able to purchase the iPhone 4S because of a two year contract from their cell phone provider or perhaps even because of the cost, searches for iPhone 5 are centered around when the official release will be in 2012 and what features it will have compared to older models. Whatever the iPhone 5 will have, you can just label it a 5 and without any improvements to the latest line of Apple devices, youll know it's a winner.

Zienna Miller loves her iPhone 4s, which she uses to take pictures of her new pet teacup pig and posing with her actor friend, Daniel Hayes.
