Well that’s interesting… Lifehacker reports that the manager of Google’s enterprise products, Rajen Sheth, has done an 18 minute video showing how a company can increase productivity by using Google Apps.
The video appears on the Official Google Channel and was added this Monday.
It’s on YouTube
Why does Google prefer to use YouTube over Google Video?
- YouTube draws 4 times as much visits as Google Video (HitWise)
- YouTube visitors stay twice as long as visitors at Google Video (HitWise)
- YouTube reaches 20.5% of the US Internet population against Google Video’s 6.7% (comScore)
Conclusion: after Yahoo Video and Fox Interactive (which includes MySpace), YouTube is the most used video site. If Google wants (viral) video exposure the choice between YouTube and Google Video is easily made.
It’s Viral
I haven’t seen the Official Google Channel on YouTube officially announced anywhere. Nor have I seen this particular video announced. The content is being seeded and you and I are doing the viral job of getting the word out.
The angle of this video is productivity. If ever there was a growing geek market with an audience ranging from top decision makers to the IT department, and from self-employed to single mom, productivity is it. The number of sites and blogs about lifehacks, productivity and specific productivity systems such as Getting Things Done (GTD) is booming.
Slanting this video towards that topic, productivity, versus making a general “how to” video tutorial guarantees sites like Lifehacker pick it up, people like me see it — and we talk about it.
