I've always enjoyed MarketWire for optimal syndication and professionalism for getting a message out. They're pretty expensive though depending on which areas you want to get exposure in.

As far as an SEO standpoint goes, you get the best bang for your buck with PRweb.com or PRleap.com

It's kinda BS they charge you to do things like add images or text links but whatever.

Very valuable information - thanks very much for posting it, you've steered me away from wasting my time (and money) on a free service. I'd also be interested in knowing how many days or weeks that the press releases were driving traffic to the sites in question and how much time it took to see a measurable effect.

Thank you for your feedback. You're absolutely right. We do try to track many of these additional metrics that you mention (especially when we're doing a report for a client!!!).

In this particular test, it was hard to separate out which referral traffic was generated as a result of which PR piece. I think that you've raised an excellent point though and I'd love to write about How to Measure the Full Value of your Online Press Release as a follow up posting (if you don't mind lending me the idea???)

Thank you for doing this and posting about it. I hate to rain on your parade but the distribution statistics we (PRWeb) provides are not so complete as to be used as a win-loss metric. They are limited to our realm of influence. There are headline impressions outside of our reach to measure (e.g. within search engine results) and page views when your release gets hosted elsewhere (e.g. on Yahoo! News -> http://news.yahoo.com/i/2224). As a result, the true traffic figures are much larger yet elusive to report.

Then again, the numbers I feel are most meaningful are going to be available from your operations. Statistics such as increases in site traffic (including traffic from search and other sites besides PRWeb), increases in offline inquiries from both media and prospects and (over time) increased ranking for the strategic keywords used in the release. And the increase in the ultimate conversion (e.g. sales).

That being said, the $200 SEO Visibility package is what I typically recommend as the best-bang-for-your-buck. So we definitely agree on that!

Thanks again for illustrating this for others to consider and for using PRWeb. You've come a long way since your first use back in 1999!
