A Lower Tier Manager’s Lament - (to the tune of Paint it Black)
May 28th, 2007 by jimhedger
I have a bottom-line and I wanted to paint it black
No red ink anymore I wanted those numbers black
I’d seen dot-coms walk by dressed in those fancy clothes
I had to turn my head my ambition got exposed
I see the line of cars and they’re all painted black
I’ve one chance to score big that may not ever come back
I’ve seen VCs turn their heads and quickly look away
Like poorly planned start-ups it just happens every day
I’d looked at other’s books and saw their ink was black
My board saw red ink and it said it must be black
Make some cash and I can just chill out and not have to face the flack
It’s not easy stepping up when your own books ain’t black
No chance to wait until it turns a deeper blue
We’ll have lunch sometime next week, let me get back to you
If I look hard enough towards the rising sun
Success will come to me before next quarter comes
I see my bottom line and I need it painted black
No worries anymore when my numbers come in black
I’ll start driving traffic dressed up in what looks like fancy clothes
Morals, ethics, karmic guilt where did those feelings go?
Yum yum that money tastes good when topped with fancy cheese
I hope the last escort didnt carry a venereal disease
I’m gonna make it painted, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
My ambition cloaks the sun, blots it out from the sky
My bottom line gets painted, painted, painted, painted black,
Yeah!
