Boston Ranks Amongst Most Expensive Markets for Keywords in New England

SEP's ongoing research into PPC Campaigns has revealed that Boston was the 2nd most expensive city in New England in keyword bids in Google Adwords for the month of September 2014. Boston also ranks amongst the most expensive cities in Massachusetts, ranking 1st. In the study, Waterbury ranked as the most expensive city in New England for keywords, while Manchester ranked as the least expensive city.

Google Adwords Keyword Prices 127% Higher in Boston than Cambridge

SEP’s research also tracks Google Adwords price changes and trends in cities across Canada and the U.S. Recent data shows that average prices in Boston are 127% higher than in Cambridge. The average price of a click in Boston is $14.99.

This price difference is understandable though, given the population of Cambridge is less than Boston, which generally means less competition and therefore lower prices.

To understand if prices in Boston are relatively low, we also compared prices with Washington which has a similar population, and found the average price of a click in Boston was 26% higher than in Washington. This suggests that perhaps Boston prices are not relatively low.

The study illustrates the Average Price-Per-Click in a given city for select Industries and their related segments. Additionally, it reveals its current rank to other markets in a Country, Province, and its Month over Month % Price change.

This PPC study monitors the prices of keywords, number of advertisers competing for those keywords, and search volumes. To ensure relative market-to-market comparison keywords tracked are based on sufficient search volumes in all markets studied.
