Boston Ranked Most Expensive City for Keywords in New England

SEP's ongoing research into PPC Campaigns has revealed that Boston was the most expensive city in New England in keyword bids in Google Adwords for the month of September 2016. Boston also ranked the most expensive city in Massachusetts. In the study, Manchester ranked as the least expensive city in New England for keywords, while Manchester ranked as the least expensive city in New England and Manchester ranked as the least expensive city in Massachusetts.

SEP's research shows that the average price of a click to advertisers targeting Boston keywords increased by (Yr/Yr increase %)% versus the same keywords one year earlier.

Google Adwords Keyword Prices 30% Higher in Boston than Cambridge

SEP’s research also tracks Google Adwords price changes and trends in cities across Canada and the U.S. Recent data shows that average prices in Boston are 30% higher than in Cambridge. The average price of a click in Boston is $18.21.

This price difference is understandable though, given the population of Cambridge is less than Boston, which generally means less competition and therefore lower prices.

To understand if prices in Boston are relatively low, we also compared prices with Washington which has a similar population, and found the average price of a click in Boston was 53% higher than in Washington. This suggests that perhaps Boston prices are not relatively low.

The Price Rank shows how expensive keywords are in certain industry and segment relative to other cities in a country, region and province.
