Detroit Ranks Amongst Most Expensive Markets for Keywords in Rocky Mountain States

SEP's ongoing research into PPC Campaigns has revealed that Detroit was the 16th most expensive city in Rocky Mountain States in keyword bids in Google Adwords for the month of March 2015. Detroit also ranks amongst the most expensive cities in Michigan, ranking 1st. In the study, Ann Arbour ranked as the most expensive city in Rocky Mountain States for keywords, while Fort Wayne ranked as the least expensive city.

SEP's research shows that the average price of a click to advertisers targeting Detroit keywords increased by 32% in March 2015.

Google Adwords Keyword Prices 187% Higher in Detroit than Warren

SEP’s research also tracks Google Adwords price changes and trends in cities across Canada and the U.S. Recent data shows that average prices in Detroit are 187% higher than in Warren. The average price of a click in Detroit is $16.54.

This price difference is understandable though, given the population of Warren is less than Detroit, which generally means less competition and therefore lower prices.

To understand if prices in Detroit are relatively low, we also compared prices with El Paso which has a similar population, and found the average price of a click in Detroit was 52% higher than in El Paso. This suggests that perhaps Detroit prices are not relatively low.

The Price Rank shows how expensive keywords are in certain industry and segment relative to other cities in a country, region and province.

An ongoing PPC Study by Search Engine People tracks and monitors how paid search in North America’s Top Cities is changing over time for select industries.

The study illustrates the Average Price-Per-Click in a given city for select Industries and their related segments. Additionally, it reveals its current rank to other markets in a Country, Province, and its Month over Month % Price change.

This PPC study monitors the prices of keywords, number of advertisers competing for those keywords, and search volumes. To ensure relative market-to-market comparison keywords tracked are based on sufficient search volumes in all markets studied.

The study includes a limited numbers of keywords to represent each industry, and specific segments in each industry. The main industries tracked are:
