Washington Ranks Amongst Most Expensive Markets for Keywords in South Atlantic

SEP's ongoing research into PPC Campaigns has revealed that Washington was the 9th most expensive city in South Atlantic in keyword bids in Google Adwords for the month of April 2015. Washington also ranks amongst the most expensive cities in District Of Columbia, ranking 1st. In the study, North Charleston ranked as the most expensive city in South Atlantic for keywords, while Norfolk ranked as the least expensive city.

Google Adwords Keyword Prices 43% Higher in Washington than Arlington

SEP’s research also tracks Google Adwords price changes and trends in cities across Canada and the U.S. Recent data shows that average prices in Washington are 43% higher than in Arlington. The average price of a click in Washington is $19.57.

This price difference is understandable though, given the population of Arlington is less than Washington, which generally means less competition and therefore lower prices.

To understand if prices in Washington are relatively low, we also compared prices with Boston which has a similar population, and found the average price of a click in Washington was 19% higher than in Boston. This suggests that perhaps Washington prices are not relatively low.

An ongoing PPC Study by Search Engine People tracks and monitors how paid search in North America’s Top Cities is changing over time for select industries.

The study illustrates the Average Price-Per-Click in a given city for select Industries and their related segments. Additionally, it reveals its current rank to other markets in a Country, Province, and its Month over Month % Price change.

This PPC study monitors the prices of keywords, number of advertisers competing for those keywords, and search volumes. To ensure relative market-to-market comparison keywords tracked are based on sufficient search volumes in all markets studied.

The study includes a limited numbers of keywords to represent each industry, and specific segments in each industry. The main industries tracked are:
