Chicago Ranks Amongst Most Expensive Markets for Keywords in Rocky Mountain States

SEP's ongoing research into PPC Campaigns has revealed that Chicago was the 9th most expensive city in Rocky Mountain States in keyword bids in Google Adwords for the month of March 2015. Chicago also ranks amongst the most expensive cities in Illinois, ranking 1st. In the study, Ann Arbour ranked as the most expensive city in Rocky Mountain States for keywords, while Fort Wayne ranked as the least expensive city.

Google Adwords Keyword Prices 27% Higher in Chicago than Naperville

SEP’s research also tracks Google Adwords price changes and trends in cities across Canada and the U.S. Recent data shows that average prices in Chicago are 27% higher than in Naperville. The average price of a click in Chicago is $19.33.

This price difference is understandable though, given the population of Naperville is less than Chicago, which generally means less competition and therefore lower prices.

To get a better sense of relative prices, we also compared prices with another city of equal population, Dallas, and found the average price of a click in Chicago was 12% lower than in Dallas. This suggests that perhaps prices in Chicago are relatively low.

The Price Rank shows how expensive keywords are in certain industry and segment relative to other cities in a country, region and province.

An ongoing PPC Study by Search Engine People tracks and monitors how paid search in North America’s Top Cities is changing over time for select industries.

The study illustrates the Average Price-Per-Click in a given city for select Industries and their related segments. Additionally, it reveals its current rank to other markets in a Country, Province, and its Month over Month % Price change.

This PPC study monitors the prices of keywords, number of advertisers competing for those keywords, and search volumes. To ensure relative market-to-market comparison keywords tracked are based on sufficient search volumes in all markets studied.
