Pittsburgh Ranks Amongst Most Expensive Markets for Google Adwords in USA

SEP's ongoing research into PPC Campaigns has revealed that Pittsburgh was the 19th most expensive city in USA in keyword bids in Google Adwords for the month of December 2014. Pittsburgh also ranks amongst the most expensive cities in Pennsylvania, ranking as 2nd. In the study, San Buenaventura ranked as the most expensive city in the country, while Manchester ranked as the least expensive city.

SEP's research shows that the average price of a click to advertisers targeting Pittsburgh keywords increased by 13% in December 2014.

Google Adwords Keyword Prices 244% Higher in Pittsburgh than Akron

SEP’s research also tracks Google Adwords price changes and trends in cities across Canada and the U.S. Recent data shows that average prices in Pittsburgh are 244% higher than in Akron. The average price of a click in Pittsburgh is $18.85.

This price difference is understandable though, given the population of Akron is less than Pittsburgh, which generally means less competition and therefore lower prices.

To understand if prices in Pittsburgh are relatively low, we also compared prices with Stockton which has a similar population, and found the average price of a click in Pittsburgh was 102% higher than in Stockton. This suggests that perhaps Pittsburgh prices are not relatively low.

An ongoing PPC Study by Search Engine People tracks and monitors how paid search in North America’s Top Cities is changing over time for select industries.

The study illustrates the Average Price-Per-Click in a given city for select Industries and their related segments. Additionally, it reveals its current rank to other markets in a Country, Province, and its Month over Month % Price change.

This PPC study monitors the prices of keywords, number of advertisers competing for those keywords, and search volumes. To ensure relative market-to-market comparison keywords tracked are based on sufficient search volumes in all markets studied.
