Norfolk Ranks Amongst Most Expensive Markets for Keywords in South Atlantic

SEP's ongoing research into PPC Campaigns has revealed that Norfolk was the 14th most expensive city in South Atlantic in keyword bids in Google Adwords for the month of July 2015. Norfolk also ranks amongst the most expensive cities in Virginia, ranking 4th. In the study, North Charleston ranked as the most expensive city in South Atlantic for keywords, while Portsmouth ranked as the least expensive city.

SEP's research shows that the average price of a click to advertisers targeting Norfolk keywords increased by 20% in July 2015.

Not surprisingly, the month over month price increases for Norfolk Google Adwords terms helped increase prices (yr./yr. price increase)% higher than the same period last year.

Google Adwords Keyword Prices 184% Higher in Norfolk than Portsmouth

SEP’s research also tracks Google Adwords price changes and trends in cities across Canada and the U.S. Recent data shows that average prices in Norfolk are 184% higher than in Portsmouth. The average price of a click in Norfolk is $16.84.

This price difference is understandable though, given the population of Portsmouth is less than Norfolk, which generally means less competition and therefore lower prices.

To understand if prices in Norfolk are relatively low, we also compared prices with Laredo which has a similar population, and found the average price of a click in Norfolk was 291% higher than in Laredo. This suggests that perhaps Norfolk prices are not relatively low.

The Price Rank shows how expensive keywords are in certain industry and segment relative to other cities in a country, region and province.

An ongoing PPC Study by Search Engine People tracks and monitors how paid search in North America’s Top Cities is changing over time for select industries.

The study illustrates the Average Price-Per-Click in a given city for select Industries and their related segments. Additionally, it reveals its current rank to other markets in a Country, Province, and its Month over Month % Price change.

This PPC study monitors the prices of keywords, number of advertisers competing for those keywords, and search volumes. To ensure relative market-to-market comparison keywords tracked are based on sufficient search volumes in all markets studied.

The study includes a limited numbers of keywords to represent each industry, and specific segments in each industry. The main industries tracked are:
