We have noticed a definate change in vistor numbers to our site 3 days after the introduction of Google Instanant in the UK - too much of a coincidence??
None of our other search engie traffic showed the same trend, and there were no changes to the website structure at all.
We get a lot of our traffic from longer-tail, less popular keywords, and I suspect that people's behaviour is being infuenced by what google predict - mine is!. Also, I very rarely venture beyond page 1 of the serps now, which I suspect many others are also doing.

Helen, I personally have found that just in the past few days that more long tail keywords are coming through. I think this was the goal of instant search, as it really helps to drill down to what the user is searching for, and helps everybody. It might change the way people start dealing with long tail keywords, which is good in my book :)

I disagree about the long tail. Google instant will favour big sites with massive budgets for SEO that rank well for generic/popular terms. What about small businesses that used to get a lot of traffic from long tail searches? Why do they need to suffer seeing a large amount of their traffic ending up in the big sites?

As you mentioned, the biggest scare for me is my impressions skyrocketing for PPC.

We know that low CTR is due to high number of impressions and low number of clicks. It's safe to assume that we will experience higher number of impression for our PPC campaigns even though there is a "wait time" of 3 seconds (my mom is a slow typer).

This is really going to mess with our quality scores and drive our CPC up...or...will everyone experience a drop in quality score and it will balance itself out? Excited/scared to see what happens.

Great post! :)
