Hi Mike,

Well...I belive that it does and I'm sure that has been enough hints over the years from google to say that it might. It makes sense that you may gain some kind of competetive advantage by not hoarding! With regards to your heading tags you have to look at the bigger picture. All SEO elements combine together to make pages that have the ability to rank and missing out some of these elements may have very little impact. heading tags improve usability and reading web pages...SEO with usability in mind!

Just wanted to add something. Link out to pages on other sites with content relevant to your own. Many people don't believe this helps, but I do.

Nice writeup btw, it's always nice to have a checklist to go through. I never really got around to adding in the H1 H2 and H3. But it doesn't seem to be affecting me too much.

Hi Jonny,

I couldnt agree more! Video is not only essential for those visitors that don't just want text but it can be a great way of appearing on the first page of Google for competetive terms.

Hi Paul,

Glad you enjoyed it! The diagram was created simply and quickly with Cacoo (free) and Snagit (minimal cost)! It all comes down to creating content that deserves to rank just for being great - rather than chasing the algorithm. Google have been shouting about it for years but it seems that a lot of people associated great content with a rehashed 500 word page. We need to address different kinds of visitors that come to our sites and give them something worthy of the rankings that we want to achieve.

Hi Aaron,

Thanks for the comment and I agree that structured data should be on a lot of to do lists this coming year. When it comes to the SERPs it is going to be a great way to differentiate yourself from the competition (and probably improve your CTRs as well). It is probably going to be some time before it is common place - so now is the time!

Hello Wayne,

I totally agree with you! Specially in point #1. Some website's url are too long and hard to spell it's a little bit annoying specially to those who are lazy in typing things like me :)

Hi Wayne,

Clear, concise and well summarised!! I especially agree with point 7. It's so frustrating how businesses fail to see the importantce of video. Especially with google video extensions for Adwords just around the corner!

Great post!

Nice post! Clear and simple.
Love the diagram too.
If people actually followed your recommendations, their content might get found.
Keep up the good work!

Pretty good checklist (and I appreciate the example, as I previously did SEO in the online jewelry trade:)!

I would definitely add structured data to this list, particularly in regard to ecommerce content. That is, the addition of RDFa (GoodRelations) or microdata (schema.org) product offer markup for greater visibility in search engine results (most obviously for the generation of rich snippets).

Of course one might say that this is not "on-page" information, as structured markup by definition exists at the code level. But I think structured markup bears mention however one classifies it, as one can get more mileage from what already appears on the page with the addition of this markup.
