Great to hear you like the post!

You raise a very good question. I'm almost annoyed with myself for leaving this out as button colour was in the back of my mind when planning and preparing the post. There absolutely is a psychology behind colours that convert. Lots of test have found that Red and Orange do very well but there is no simple answer to this question, it does vary depending on the look of the site in question.

To play devils advocate, choosing a bad colour can actually have a negative impact on conversion. Hubspot did an excellent test on this which showed that the colour Red outperformed the colour Green on their clients site (although I would stress that every site may have different results): http://blog.hubspot.com/blog/tabid/6307/bid/20566/The-Button-Color-A-B-Test-Red-Beats-Green.aspx

Thanks, George! I started out wanting to add some data for the kind of impact each of these tips has had on sites that I have directly or indirectly implemented them on but every site (and every niche) seem to react differently. It's a little bit of a cliche but you have to see which one works best for your store. Good luck!

Matt love the post! I am taking on board all of these ideas and running them through for my site almost like a checklist. I have a question, though what about the call to action color? I have been playing around with the colors and it seems that a few colours convert more than others? would you agree this is true?

thank you aires

Matt, these are really great ideas. I'd love to see some testing data that would show how much of an impact each of these can potentially have - this way I'd know where to start!

I am excited though to start implementing some of these.

Matt, what an excellent, thorough and useful post! I always like the "creating a sense of urgency" point for ecommerce copy...there is absolute truth in that raising the ROI of product copy. Making things easy to navigate and understand for the consumer is also very important. Great tips shared.
