I have to admit that the idea of organising people into groups I find very compelling. Right at the moment I don't share my facebook page with business contacts. I suspect many others have the same issues that a facebook page is about your social life and you quite possibly don't want to mix that with your business life. I think there may be a cultural aspect to this as well. In the US I think there is less of a divide between private and business life, here in the UK I think we tend to have a firmer divide. Whether that's a good or bad thing who's to say but it does impact how we view applications like Facebook from a business standpoint.

I'm going to be signing up for a Google+ account because I think this is a bold experiment from Google and I'm fascinated to see how it turns out.

Best regards,

Thanks, Mel. I agree with you that contests are great for Facebook page engagement and visibility. Some people offer freebies in exchange of liking their pages and here's a good example of that:
http://garious.com/blog/2010/12/how-did-contentprofessor-hit-the-list-building-and-facebook-marketing-birds-with-one-stone/

But when it comes to contests, Facebook doesn't appreciate "bribing" people into liking pages and/or commenting on posts. So, if your contest was only "like my page and you will win", I wouldn't recommend it.
Your best bet is to create a fun contest that will keep your fans happy and engaged and the winners can showcase their virtual prize on their walls which translates into more visibility to you. Some big names like Coca Cola have been doing that with great success. I invite you to check out the links presented under "Facebook SEO For Panda Tip 1". They are loaded with great Facebook page ideas. Good luck :).

Thank you so much for your encouraging words, Melinda. I had to do lots (and I mean LOTS) of reading before I felt comfortable enough to write this article. Your beautiful comment proves that my effort paid off. You made my day :)
