A dozen or two active stumblers can do more for your social media campaign that hours of marketing, but it takes time and honesty to foster those relationships.

The basic problem of Social media campaign as you have rightly said is the bounce rate which is very high due to quality of the content. People basically try to use this medium to promote their sites not but the content has to good so that visitors get hook to it. Moreover the audience of social media which i feel is mostly webmasters and SEO's as most of the internet user are not aware of social media and how to use it. Awareness is required to make social media popular.

Great post. Love the part about the microsites as so many small and big brands are so hesistant to be a part of social media as it may damage the brand or be inconsistent with it. The challenge is that there is a comfort zone with traditional media that does not exist with social media. Social is new and continues to grow whereas traditional is easy and what most have always done. The general feeling is that consumers control the brand in social media. They influence but do not control.

Good read and thought provoking!

Jordan, bravo! It's not a rocket science post but I like the fact that you dispel the myth that social media is a direct response medium. I also love the tie in to the big brands with the Burger King example.I will definitely be pointing that out when talking social media with big brands. Typically they are so afraid of running a social media campaign because of the fear of the unknown factor and that desire to always have total control over everything around them.
