Steve, what a great post! Agencies often want to do what is quick and easy for them instead of thinking about what is best for the client. And some of them actually want to cause pain to any client that moves on. How an agency handles the issues you outline can give you a good idea of what kind of outfit you're dealing with.

Hi Steve,

It is so good to see another SEO that is passionae about Local SEO given a great platform to share their knowledge and insight (and I am glad you enjoyed my post). The ideas you talk about here are so important - often Google Places accounts are hidden away in personal accounts that an SEO doesn't have access to - especially with smaller companies. It is crucial that businesses look at the bigger picture befor diving in. Great post...I'm off to check out your blog...

Heya Matt,

My hope with this post, here on SEP, is to convince a few agencies and SEO's to start thinking about their clients' interests and not just their own.

Steve,

Awesome post! It is one of my biggest pet peeves when agencies control all that data. Even when I am setting up a brand new account for a client I set-up all the stuff to make it under their control.

Equally it just as important to make sure the SMB sets up all these accounts under a admin email that is not associated with their personal email, so if they sell their business, they can easily transfer it.
