Very interesting tool/service at www.staticshell.com. If you are having trouble getting the search engines to index your dynamic pages, this service will crawl every unique dynamic link on your website and after spidering the page it saves a static version of that page. It is not free, but there are several service levels to choose from, with the lowest level being only a penny per page. The resulting static pages look just like the original dynamic pages, but the urls dont contain any dynamic paramters (no ? or = in the url). (I would have included a screenshot, but it would be redundant since it looks just like the dynamic page).
The three options for the tool are:
- Single use for websites with a lot of dynamic content, and the content is changed infrequently (one cent per page)
- Monthly subscription for large dynamic websites with content that changes on a semi-frequent basis. - use unlimited number of times in a month - Price varies based on average size of sites submitted.
- Purchase rights to install on your server - for users with extremely large dynamic sites that contains content which changes on a daily basis.
If you were looking for an easy way to turn all your dynamic pages into static pages, this might be a great service to consider.
One caveat: it does place a link to the service at the bottom of the page, at least for the single use version. Ask the owner of the service if there is a way to remove these links (perhaps for a fee, or perhaps in a higher service level).
