I jump back and forth between Daedalus and Phraseology. Phraseology feels solid, whereas Daedalus can be flaky in screen refreshes (assumed) and inconsistent syncing, which can be scary. I save and backup a lot! Daedalus does have a better and customizable extra button row above the keyboard.

Touchscreen navigation is very useful. For example, a two-finger tap in the margin moves the curser a word at a time, and a one-finger tap moves one character at a time. Very natural feel to it. I find myself wanting to do that no matter what app I'm using.

Both let me use markdown characters. And both will let me export directly into the app, as well as others. Very useful, since I oscillate between the two.

Another stone that weights my favor towards Daedalus is direct export of ePub files into iBooks, complete with markdown formatting.

I too have an iPad 1 but don't feel stuck with it or that it's old. In fact, given the slightly shorter battery life I feel very very good about it. They're amazing machines.

Thanks for this! ByRoom looks really cool, definitely worth a shot. I'm still stuck with an old iPad 1, I've heard that more pixels and larger resolution on the New iPad makes it one of the best portable devices to write on, as it provides you with a lot of space in terms of being able to see your text.
