Glimpses of the future of the Internet

Saturday, I talked a bit about the future of the Internet as the social aspects combine to create ways of communicating (and marketing) that we haven't even imagined yet. Today, I read an article that excites me both as a developer and an SEO. Adobe (who I admittedly am not terribly fond of) has released an alpha version of a project code-named Apollo that really gives us a glimpse into the future.

"What we're really focused on is to enable the Web to have a greater presence on the desktop, so as a Web developer you can create your application and have it be installable on the desktop," he said. "We're bringing the Web to the desktop."

...applications built using standard Internet development technologies--such as HTML, Flash and AJAX--can run offline.

I don't know about you, but the possibilities that opens up in my mind are endless. Folks, it really is time to start thinking about how you are going to position yourselves for the things that will be coming down the Internet "pipeline" in the next few years. Forget Web 2.0. Think beyond that. Boundaries are completely disappearing and possibilities are endless. Where will you be in that future?
