Interesting take Ruud. Terry ... The problem is that EVERYTHING is easy to game and some do it rampantly whether it's on Twitter, (the old) Digg, etc. When it comes to user generated reviews, it's probably gamed more than anything else. Google's partners were gamed already. This move actually could help? Whether it's cars, hotels, airlines, they all have people posting their own stuff. More importantly, real users are MUCH more likely to post negative reviews than positive ones. Tripadvisor has made numerous public attempts to clean this up.

Yikes.... tough audience. I like this I think this is a small part of bigger puzzle. Google Local was absurdly easy to game... so much so real marketers left it to the cowboys. I'm thinking that changes with this, the recent change to the Local Universals and the Product Feeds announcement are Game changers. I know I am looking at putting a client into these programs because in some form or another they will be around for a while.

You would have thought that they would have learned their lesson from Wave. They had tons of hype and interest and no community. At least Google Places have a built-in audience, but this whole idea tastes like fail.

Google really doesn't get social and I don't think users are really comfortable with Google having that much information.
