First, doing this kind of upfront analysis is just smart salesmanship. There is only one thing that a client cares about and it is good to be knowledgeable about it. Specific examples have ten times the power of vague generalizations. Besides it makes you look just a bit hungry which is never bad...

I also appreciate having the methodology so cleanly and crisply spelled out. Nothing like not having to reinvent the wheel!

Linkscape is great because it actually does rate the inbound links by a variety of factors and lets you sort out the nofollows and such. Typically you can use Yahoo Site Explorer as a decent tool for this, and it does work to a certain extent, but if a site has 30,000 random inbound links, you have to weed through them all to find the important ones. More often than not, about 99% of the inbound links equal up to the value of the top 1% which are actually high quality, highly optimized links.]]></description>
