I love adding different sub headers to catch the attention of skimmers. I think majority of readers scan the article, looking for something interesting.

When I do this,(scan), I'm looking for something catchy, or something that may be relevant to me and my business.

Making sub headers that intrigue the readers, or something that makes them smirk is something I like to do.

I agree with the comments above.

And I also agree with what you said, Ben, the longer the article, the better.

Just have to keep the article engaging, enough for readers to reach the end. Or at least, make them curious about who wrote the article, and possible click on the link in your bio box.

Ben, it was the perfect length. Thank you for answering a question that I have been grappling with!

Regarding readers or "skimmers" as I call them... it's key to use bulleted lists, headlines (h2) and short paragraphs... sorry, but some of yours were far, far too long. My rule of thumb... if it's more than 5 lines... start a new paragraph.

It wasn't the length, it was the middle chunk of unbroken text that made my eyes want to skim the post.

White-space (maybe another pic) and short clear readable paragraphs really help with readability.
