Google recommends NOT merging your Place page AKA Google+ business page with your Google+ Business page yet because it’s so problematic.

“I agree that there should be an easier process for transitioning.”

There is and it’s right around the corner and that’s why Google says wait.

The new Google for Business dashboard is rolling out to all users now. Once you get the new dash there will be a one button upgrade that will seamlessly merge everything, without all the bugs and problems users have been having.
