Super tips Zeke! I’m a huge fan of Twitter and use it to grow my knowledge base in my niche’ ( Social Media for Businesses)
I have another great tip to add to your list if you don’t mind~

Scan all of the going’s on durin #FF’s, especially those of the Big Kahuna’s- follow those they are @mentioning (with your own discretion) usually these are other great Tweeps worthy of a follow!
This method of following is a quick and easy capture that helps develop your base!

Very good point, Frans. In fact it’s something Amit Singhal alluded to:

While he wouldn’t get into details, he said Google modeled this hashtagging behavior in ways that tend to reduce the exposure of low-quality tweets. “We needed to model that [hashtagging] behavior. That is the technical challenge which we went after with our modeling approaches,” Singhal says

You must be cautious with hashtags. Using too many of them and people think you’re a spammer. That’s because a lot of populair hashtags are used by spammers to get followers. If you contribute something to twitter, you’ll surely get some quality followers.
