Did you know that Google Blog search has its own separate link: command? Did you also know that you can get near-real-time link information from it? I didn't until today.
Yesterday, I had a forum thread go popular on Digg. This morning, I set up a Google alert using link:www.myforumname.com so that I could track links that may have resulted from the Digg. I was surprised this evening to receive an email from Google Alerts listing 8 brand spanking new links to that thread.
My first thought was, "Wow! That was quick!" After a bit of discussion about it with my buddy, Michael, we realized that it was coming from Blog search only, and also that it was defaulting to the linkdomain: command. That in itself is pretty cool, but the fact that we don't have to wait months to see them via an update is even cooler. At least some of those links listed were posted TODAY. Google not only picked them up quickly, but allowed me to see them that quickly. Wow.
