My own take - is from a client SEO campaign of 6 years ago. Client shall remain nameless, but they manufacture various meat products (among other things) and one of those products are hamburgers. They sell millions of lbs of same, and on EACH box it's noted to the consumer that the burgers must be cooked to an internal temp of 160 degF. All consumers of course don't follow guidelines, and yes someone got very sick - in fact as I remembe 7 people did get very ill from eating undercooked burgers - across 3 batch lines as I remember. With the Can food authorities getting involved, burger recalls, news posts etc...the client company suffered big time but made it through that stretch - but of course Google (et al) search results showed only the negative press. We were hired to help "bury" that news with better reviews, newer reviews and press and online rep repair...and I think we did a great job.

So, my point? That sometimes when you "do" this kind of online rep repair, you can feel that you're helping....and that it's not like burying the truth whatsoever....it's just trying to maintain a balance....
