Mitch in answer to your question, no passive traffic, but this is pretty true of all social networks..
As Kyle mentions, its mostly a female audience and is of course a very visual medium.
I have our creative director (a woman) pin a bunch of cool stuff a couple of times a week- she gets followers literally as she is pinning.

I must have read about 324728 reviews on Pinterest by now and tons tons of so called ways to attract traffic using Pinterest, I got so excited about it and finally got me a Pinterest account and added the pin button to my sites and nothing happened lol,
I guess the main key that everyone forgets is that you have to be active and wasting time and energy on it to get this to work.
I guess passive Pinterest traffic does not exist!
