This is IMO, especially true where consumer products are concerned. That makes me wonder about the use of "topics" as an effective targeting method. Twitter now will succeed through advertising, and potentially rival networking site facebook.

The only thing that's going to change that for Twitter is a different way to find and respond to tweets, and that'll require a highly adopted platform. That's always been my problem with ads targeted by topic.

Ya, you got it- I think Google is about relevance, and Twitter is about influence. The only thing that's going to change that for Twitter is a different way to find and respond to tweets, and that'll require a highly adopted platform or app. IMO Twitter has outgrown network-oriented messaging as its ONLY connector- I'd like to see Twitter add a user-generated topical level.

Thanks Brian excellent information useful in determining monetization of applications and services. In my short time reviewing metrics I was surprised at how something outside my usual topic has had the most CT's and positive results. This is IMO, especially true where consumer products are concerned. That makes me wonder about the use of "topics" as an effective targeting method. We run into things like cell phones being "of interest" to almost anyone on any site. That's always been my problem with ads targeted by topic. Measuring responses to that off topic post is more telling then the response from an on topic post IMO, that shows the degree of "influence" which is in the buying scenario a big factor.
