Thanks a lot for this post Jared.

I think all those sites are great, and have used them a lot. I was honestly lost about SEO until I found out how to learn from the many online videos (everything I learned so far has been from FREE ones btw...) I agree with what you have said here about learning from SEO videos really helps, and I would still be lost without them (I guess I got addicted to them as well). Some people just learn better from this type of technique. Some people learn from instructor led training, some from reading books as well, I just found that watching the videos and allowing me to pause them to practice what I just saw and heard helps a lot.

Some of my favorites sites to check out are the SEOmoz, and I search form all the Matt Cutts videos as well. I got sick of searching though, and using some of the techniques I had learned I created a website that basically searches for all the SEO videos and lists them on my site. It was really just a tool for me to continue learning and to practice what I had learned after only a few days of learning some SEO techniques, and I still have not done much to spread the word about it (my 21 month old daughter and a wife get in the way, in a good way, during a lot of my efforts). Now I basically just go straight to my page that is based on seo training videos and learn away. Any feedback you can provide on it would be great if you have time. The site is SEO-Video-Training.com

Thanks again for the post and have a great day,
Jason

It's not quite that simple anymore I'm afraid. While those things you mentioned are definitely still the backbone of SEO, there are things that weren't big factors 5 years ago, that now are. Things like social metrics, over-optimization, market saturation, mobile optimization, user retention, all play a big role in the world of SEO today.

As a result, sub-niches specific tactics are becoming more and more prevalent (and important). Conversion rate optimization, stronger keyword research, constant competitive analysis, and overall excellent marketing and engagement are all important-especially in more competitive markets.

And depending on your competition, "good" may not be enough. There's a big difference between good and great. "Good" may get you to the first page, but "great" can get you to number one. In my opinion, these are examples of "great" resources.

Jared, it's great to see so many good SEO-related resources. But don't you think looking at all these resources is going a bit overboard?

Please tell me if I'm wrong, but the basics of SEO give you 90% of all the results:
- Write good content
- Get good backlinks
- Optimize your on-page SEO

Done. What else can you learn that will make a LARGE difference in SEO efforts?
