Hello Ashley, thanks for your input. Engagement is not an easy thing online as I'm sure you are aware of. It's unfortunate that people expect it to happen overnight. Without planning, outlining, and actually doing the work. You can't just go up to someone and say lets be friends in the real world. Yet, thousands of businesses do it online. Which is fine, but I can guarantee those "friends/likes/stars/K+" still want to see your commitment, value and leadership before they do anything you ask them to.

One of the biggest mistakes businesses starting out in social make is joining networks without a purpose. Many businesses jump on Facebook & Twitter and call it a social media plan. I'm so glad you touched on this. Businesses should incorporate social into their overall marketing plan and start by defining their goals and audience before joining social networks. I think what businesses struggle with the most is engagement. One-way communication is easy. It's making it two-way that's difficult. Businesses who accomplish this will reap the rewards of social.
