Hi grat post very informative.
I am in the process of trying to rank my first niche site. The content on your site has been very helpful. This has got me thinking about the content on my own site. The first thing I am going to do after leaving this comment is go back and check what I have already done and make sure the quality is good. I have also just put your blog on my desktop so I can come back to it for more info.

So thanks again

Hi Vikas, thanks for your additional insight into bounce rates. There are indeed different bounce types and people do tend to misinterpret them or get too hung up on bounce rates.

To add to the Bounce Rate issue, there are a lot of factors to be considered.

The Bounce rate which we see in the Google Analytics is not something the search engines consider for quality purposes. Search engine consider the "Dwell Time" which is nothing but the time spent on a page by the visitor before leaving back to the search results page or closing the page (without going to any other page on the site).

Also, there are two types of bounce rates: Actual Bounce Rate and Standard Bounce Rate

Actual bounce rate: user visiting your page from search results page and leaving within a few seconds without navigating to any other page on the site. The bounce rate what you see in the Google Analytics program is nothing but the Actual Bounce Rate. This is a negative sign as the Dwell Time is just a few seconds.

Standard bounce rate: A person visits a page with high quality content, reads the full content and then leave (spends more than 10 mins). Also, he doesn't visit any other page on the site. This is still a bounce, but "Standard Bounce Rate". Here this is not considered as a negative sign by the search engines as the Dwell Time is more than 10 mins!

Hi Dave, thanks for your comment. You're absolutely right about that. It's shocking to see how many businesses just get a website up without having thought things through first. Great point.

Nice Article Micky.

Where I find most small-business websites fall over is that they fail to outline clear goals about what they want to achieve BEFORE they start the development process.

Outlining your goals isn't just about "generating new leads" it is about identifying your ideal customers, identifying your unique selling points, identifying what trust factors influence your ideal customer, identifying the most suitable traffic sources (sometimes it's not always about search engines) etc etc.

Once you have a clear understanding of what you want to achieve, every aspect of the development cycle can then be focused on obtaining this outcome.
