I just feel the need to give kudos to Yahoo! this morning. Recently, about two weeks ago, I put three new sites up. All three are targetting relatively non-competitive terms and all are aimed at the average Joe type of surfer. These are the kinds of sites that Yahoo! and MSN users tend to search for more than Google users do. So, although I would be happy with good Google rankings, Yahoo! and MSN are my target engines for these sites. Today, Yahoo! ranked my target phrases at either number 1 or number 2 for each of the sites.
So I thought I would share what kind of optimization work was done on these sites, so that you can use the knowledge to get your own non-competitive terms ranked easily in Yahoo! as well. Each site has only 2 or 3 links from sites I do not control, and those are directory sites that I submitted to. I placed one site-wide link to each on three of my own sites. So far, I have exchanged no links with any other sites, so there are no reciprocal links on the new sites. I do have a couple of outbound links on each site, leading to authority sites for the topics.
On-page SEO is of the standard variety, with optimized titles, header tags, and body content.
Although the targetted terms are not competitive ones, it is still a joy to see a major search engine find, index, and rank the sites well in such a short period of time. I hope you have the same success.
