The big news for today is the launch of Yahoo! Publisher Network Self-Serve Beta program. Anyone using Adsense has been waiting for a real competitor to come along, and Yahoo! is finally delivering. However, this program is not yet open to everyone. Yahoo! is still hand-picking beta testers at this point, but will open it up to more publishers by the end of the year.
According to the Yahoo! Search blog, ...Several things became clear: In addition to the obvious -- competitive revenue opportunities - you expressed a desire for more ways to enhance the content of your sites and connect with your users. You also indicated that you'd like more control - not only over how ads appear, but also over what types of ads appear on their sites. In addition, the publishers we spoke to expressed a need for more accessible customer service. We heard those requests, and we've built a beta product that addresses those needs.
Rustybrick, of Search Engine Roundtable, is a lucky beta tester (I'm jealous). 🙂 He has an exclusive interview with the GM of Yahoo! Publisher Network that gives more details about the advantages of signing up for the program.
I personally can't wait to try this out and see how this compares to Adsense. Look out Google, competition is here!
