I would make sure that you do not have any other SEO pugins active on your site when you install Yoast.

We use the Yoast SEO Plugin across all our WordPress sites and can’t say enough about it. We’ve tried a couple others but are just more comfortable with Yoast’s from both an ease of use and ranking standpoint.
