Add content by soliciting testimonials

In a previous post, I mentioned a creative way of adding backlinks to a site by offering to write testimonials for another site if they agreed to post a link back to your site. You can find that post at http://www.seo-scoop.com/direct_link.cfm?thepost=88. However, adding testimonials for your product or service on your website can be a great way to add content to your site. Of course, it also helps reassure potential customers that your product or service is worth purchasing.

Take some time to contact former customers and ask them to provide a testimonial for your site. Promise something in return for the testimonial. If the customer owns a website, offer to give them a link back to their site. If your customers are not likely to own websites, offer them a free widget or some small item in exchange for the testimonial.

I received a clever email yesterday from someone soliciting a testimonial from me. It was clever because it used a product called Instant Audio, that allows users to call a toll-free number to leave a voice testimonial. This voice-based testimonial is then used on the website. If you combined the written testimonial (for adding content), and the voice testimonial (for marketing punch), you might be creating a double-whammy marketing scheme.
