DMOZ surprises me again

We all know what a struggle it can be to get a site listed in DMOZ. Some of the few sites I have listed there took up to a year to get in. One got listed within a month (a long time ago) and I was a very surprised SEO at that time. Well, once again, DMOZ has surprised me by listing a brand-new two-week old site in its directory. I just noticed it was in there today, when I was looking at my MSN backlinks for the site, but I don't know when it first appeared. Obviously, it was sometime within two weeks of site launch.

Speculations as to why it got listed? The site is one-of-a-kind. I built it to take advantage of a breaking news story, and no one to date has a site soley dedicated to the topic. (Lots of sites have a page or two devoted to it, but none have an entire site for it). Although it runs Adsense, it is otherwise an informational site, with content updated semi-regularly (depending upon when there is new information on the topic). The subcategory it is listed in has no editor, so the editor from the parent category must have approved it.

So I guess the moral of the story is that sometimes DMOZ is on the ball, and sometimes what it takes to get listed is to have a unique, topical, news-worthy site.
