Have you ever looked at the image filenames of the people you're following on Twitter (i.e., mypicture.jpg)? Does the naming of your profile picture reveal anything about you?
We decided to take a look at 31 Twitter profiles around the industry to see if there were any patterns... and indeed there were! We've broken them down into 7 different teams.
What team are you on?
#TeamGeneric
First up are the less interesting, generic ones. I'm a member of #TeamGeneric too, although I did consider changing it to an easter egg and seeing who'd catch on. There's nothing special in the naming of these profile images, and the majority of Twitter users fall into this category.
I'm sure they're really interesting in real life though!
#TeamSquares
Being in a perfect square is important to #TeamSquares. Being perfectly in the square, however, is another story. (I'm looking at you, Matt - err... half of you anyway.)
#TeamCryptic
Want to become a member of #TeamCryptic? It's not that difficult. Just directly upload a picture from your digital device (i.e., a phone or camera) to your computer, then straight to Twitter. No filename renaming is necessary.
#TeamPixels
If you're the "pixel-perfect" kind of person, then #TeamPixels is where you belong. Members of this team can tell the difference between 100 pixels and 110 pixels with one eye closed, five feet away from the monitor.
#TeamTwitter
#TeamTwitter also represents a large groups on Twitter. These profile pictures were made/modified specifically for this micro-blogging platform, or so it would appear.
#TeamFacebook
Don't worry Facebook fans (or likers), we haven't forgotten about you! People in #TeamFacebook are likely using the same picture that they're using for their Facebook page/profile.
Hmm... That Facebook and Bing partnership seems to be going very well. 🙂
#TeamReveal
"Cartoon Barry" is a familiar character around these parts, but Chris "Office Boy" Brogan and Mack "All Hat" Collier are new to me.
Other members of #TeamReveal leave clues behind into their lives too. For example, John Chow uses FirefoxScreenSnapz, netmeg likes The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, and that's what Pete Cashmore's passport photo looks like.
