SEO success starts with rankings. At Search Engine People (SEP), we like to divide keywords into unique groupings that feed into the SEO strategy we custom-design for you.

Must Rank Keywords.

These keywords do most of the heavy lifting. They are the hardest to obtain but deliver the biggest payoff. Odds are, when you rank for your Must Rank terms you will also rank for all other term categories (so long as you let us do our thing). Our Must Rank terms are often found within Pillar Pages, Products, Services and of course, the Home Page.

Seed Terms.

Often an extension or niche variant of our Must Rank terms. These keywords skew more specific. Individually they do not impress but as a group they have a meaningful impact. We often straddle the line between the Middle of Funnel and the Bottom of Funnel keywords when selecting seed terms. Our Seed Terms are typically part of a Content Hub occasionally linked to by main navigation but most often connected by Pillar Pages.

Informational Keywords.

In most cases, your Blog. These terms skew Top of the Funnel but occasionally blend into the middle. The trick here is great keyword research, topic selection and quality writing. The timeline changes from one project to the next but there are some safe assumptions that apply to most.

Typically, you will see movement within 3-4 months. During this time, your pages related to various keywords move upward on Google’s Search Engine Results Pages, and you can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Within months 4-6, you can expect more substantial gains. Those improved rankings are starting to pay off with more qualified traffic and leads. For some, it will be a few months before you see top five rankings, while others may already be in position #1 by this stage. Competition and where you started from are factors in determining how quickly your results materialize.
