A great way to build your backlinks and get targetted traffic to your site is to submit your site to on-topic directories. Searching for directories may eventually be necessary, but two good places to start are listed below.
Some things to remember as you submit. Any PR that is passed to your site is dependent upon the PR of the actual page that your link is on - not the homepage of the site. The link to your site should be spiderable. In other words, look for links that are hard-coded links, and not cgi redirected links. You can do a backlink check on some of the sites in the directory to see if Google recognizes the backlinks to the sites. Some directories are completely free to list; some require a backlink; and some require payment.
If you submit your site to many of the directories listed, you should see a nice buildup of backlinks, increased PR, and even a little traffic to your site from the directories.
