Directories still a viable link source?

Every so often I see people discussing whether or not it is still worth getting listed in a web directory. I usually see the idea shot down as being ineffective and not worth the few minutes of time it takes to get a listing. I disagree with that stance. Directory listings are still beneficial. I get actual visits from directory listings on a daily basis. That in itself is a worthy use of my time to get the listing. But it is still helpful from an SEO point of view as well. A clean link from a relevant directory page that has been cached is still going to add to your site's ranking. Maybe not a lot...but some. And it's a great way to kickstart a new site. As with all things, don't rely on just directory listings. But don't ignore them either. It's one of the easiest ways to get a link that there is.

Other than the one directory linked are there others that you recommend (maybe a list somewhere?) for someone new to SEO or is using one of the directory submission tools, found through your search, the easiest route to take?

    Thanks
    Richard

Nice post. I agree on all points.

    Richard,
http://info.vilesilencer.com/ is a great resource for finding free directories.

http://www.FreeAdvertisingDirectory is a good one as well.

Donna, you naughty girl. Who’s directory is that, which you are writing a short blog entry for the sole purpose of passing on link popularity from a well-anchored phrase? LOL, I do the same thing…

Honestly, Everett, I have no idea whose directory that is. No one that I know (as far as I know), and certainly not mine. Just one I happen to like. 🙂

Hi Donna, Thanks for your kind words about, and support for, my directory!
